A child, barely a teenager—a goofball or rockstar, both parts of a whole. A story of unconsciously numbing an endless well of grief, pain, and trauma. Back then, I remember thinking: Why am I looking for something to be wrong when I had a great childhood? I wondered what was wrong with me for feeling the way I did, barely aware of the pain I was escaping through adventure-seeking, distraction, drinking, smoking and drugs.

By 17, I was smoking two packs of Marlboro Reds a day and embarking on mind-altering journeys. Even as I recognized my nicotine addiction and tried to quit, I carried the streak of a wounded rebel, wearing it as a badge of honor. I quit for a year—until I succumbed to the charms of the college boy who journeyed with me for a time. What the heck, I thought when he handed me a cigarette. And that was it—for another twenty years. Until I finally stopped to get pregnant and never looked back.

A few years later, I stopped smoking pot. Then drinking. The journey to sobriety a slow burn awakening over four decades.

Unfurling the child’s body of outrage-turned-against-herself, I embraced the work of opening her heart. First, by reclaiming the judgments I had placed on the world around me. Then, slowly dismantling the guard tower in my mind—a slingshot rubber-band boomerang trigger that hurled me from soul-level comprehension to the fragmented consciousness of an ego trapped, fighting against annihilation—for love, care, kindness—seeking a mirror of its existence. From 17 to 24, year after year, trauma after trauma, until the bomb that broke the camel’s back stopped me in my tracks, brought me to my knees, and woke me up to my true path and purpose. I knew I had survived to live for a reason.

I questioned it at first, but I knew I had to wake up. I sought healing—repairing the rift of consciousness, the dissociation that kept me separate from my pain and the endless well of grief that spanned beyond my own—to generations, to lifetimes. One step at a time, one breath at a time. I gathered the fractured pieces of myself. Somehow, through it all, I was guided—by a compass within my center, an orientation to peace and light. A remembering, orchestrated by souls near and dear, crossing my human path to remind me of who I am.

A life of teachers. And though I will forever be a student of life, always learning, even at a soul level, I know this human is called forth to serve. I also recognize my ego, who answers this call. It feels good to serve, to support life as it thrives. After all, I am helping myself to thrive. We are One—parts of a whole.

Goofball or rockstar? That athlete, poet, whimsical kid is still inside me—dancing, singing songs from Hair, softball mitt on, baseball cap low, a joint hanging from the corner of her mouth—stoned out of her mind. I hold her without judgment—only with love and compassionate care. I witness her experience, celebrating her gifts, her creativity, wit, and passion for the art of play.

Our greatest gift is our creative power—to give birth to new worlds. Embrace every particle of your essence. Love is your rocket fuel. That’s what we are here for now.

It is my soul purpose to learn and share the medicine I have learned, to support our collective evolution and the fire of our creative soul. I pull an oracle card sometimes to focus what I am channeling from Spirit. Sharing images can be related to more easily than words for some people who are visual. Today, the Celtic Earth Goddess Danu makes an appearance as I hone in on the element of Water that connects all life on our planet, all our memories, hopes and dreams. 

What happens in the water of our body when we focus our mind on a truth that makes a difference, a truth that enables us to feel supported and loved unconditionally? Perhaps, we can also experience more compassion for others when we embody just how connected we truly are in essence. That could be me. Why is it not? 

May we remember to love ourselves unconditionally in these moments of adrenal fatigue, and the stress and worry that may be experienced during these incredibly disruptive times of transformation.

In this brief video I am inspired to share some old but still new science which my daughter’s dentist shared with me that morning. I see this all the time in the world. For decades I’ve noticed how we collectively agree upon certain truths and then learn something knew that redefines our world view. That is a truth that precedes my little life. I may write more on the subject but for now I encourage you to open your heart and listen deeply. 

Communion with Nature has always been a sanctuary for our family, and particularly through this season in quarantine.

In a moment of deep gratitude this song flowed through me the other day. I recorded an edited version (yes, it’s a long and lovely 12 minutes but this is the short version) and combined it with recent photos I took of beautiful Nature and family.

As we all have, I have been on a journey with all that’s going on in the world. Journeying with continuing my life’s path of service and work and perpetual learning. Growing through changes and new shifts in consciousness.

Feeling myself surrendering to singing this song was profound. I connected with my voice and body -and my medicine- in a subtle new way. Years ago, I was given the medicine name, “Woman Who Runs With Song” by my teacher Irma Starspirit Turtlewoman as a result of a healing I facilitated in class during which I used my voice. Singing this song of gratitude connected me with a deeper level of that healing medicine as I felt this vibration awaken and felt the clearing of subtle blocks dissolving from my throat and pelvis. As I sang, I felt the subtle energies flowing, descending and awakening anew.

I felt the surrender given to receive.

In that spirit, I am sharing what I recall of this epic song. May the flow of these waters be a healing balm for your soul, too, and encourage your voice to express your healing truth.

How receptive can I become, how open is my heart able to be, to receive from another? ​

​Let's continue this evolutionary work together and keep normalizing our humanity. The healing key is the inner child. The work here is to deepen the intimacy of that inner relationship, feel what exists and reparent with an unconditionally loving reflection.

​What prompted this video message is the intuitive information I received about how my own mask of self-sufficient strength and the ways I perpetuate the old paradigm has prevented people from being receptive to connecting with me authentically. I take a candid look at myself, examine the cultural context and reveal what I discovered during this self inquiry. ​
